Add A Teaspoon of Positivity To Your Morning Cup Of Coffee
This weekly post highlights positivity in the martial arts from around the world. Unfortunately, it is far too easy to find negative stories on the internet. Positive ones, however, are harder to find. Let’s recognize and celebrate those martial artists and schools who are doing good things in their communities, as well as, making great accomplishments.

It has been announced that Karate will be included in the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games. This is exciting for many martial artists and not just karateka. While Taekwondo has been in the Olympics for a while now, the inclusion of Karate can be seen as shining more light on martial arts as a whole. Many Karate schools are preparing for the upcoming games by promoting it in their schools. Sensei John Fonseca recently taught a clinic to bring awareness and, maybe, find a future Karate gold medalist.

While I would like for everybody to study some amount of martial arts, I think it is even more important for females to do so. Many women’s self-defense seminars will cover things like trusting your gut, avoiding shady places, go in groups, and other vital self-defense awareness concepts. However, things do not always turn out the way we had hoped or planned. What would you do when all of those other awareness/avoidance strategies have failed and you are alone with someone who intends to do you harm? That is why I believe women of all ages should know how to defend themselves. Apparently, a few Girl Scouts agree with that thought process. A couple members of Girl Scout Troop 74297 organized a women’s self-defense seminar with a local Kenpo school for their Silver Award project.

Have you ever had to prepare for a test or competition? If you are a martial artist, I am guessing that it is highly likely you know what that preparation feels like. There are few things that will focus your training quite like having an upcoming test or competition. You can feel the pressure on you. Not only do you want to perform well for yourself, but you might also feel the need to be a good representative for your school. The students of Tiger Academy of Martial Arts SA are feeling this pressure as they prepare for a competition in India this December.

Here is an interesting one I came across. So, as many of you may or may not know, I am a huge fan of martial arts movies. I even wrote an article about the best ones to show non-martial artists a while back, while Jaredd Wilson wrote about the worst ones to show non-martial artists. Truth be told, I love them all. The good, the bad, and the phenomenally ridiculous. Here is an article about a new movie coming out of the Phillippines with a trailer on the page.
Let’s start a discussion! Did any of these articles have an effect on you? Did they change the way you viewed a particular topic? Don’t be shy! Feel free to sound off!
If you know of any good examples of positivity in the martial arts, please let me know! You can contact me directly using the contact form right below this, or post in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
As always, embrace positivity, my brothers and sisters!
