I Miss The Positivity Of The Rains Down In Africa
This weekly post highlights positivity in the martial arts from around the world. Unfortunately, it is far too easy to find negative stories on the internet. Positive ones, however, are harder to find. Let’s recognize and celebrate those martial artists and schools who are doing good things in their communities, as well as, making great accomplishments.

Many martial artists who have continued to train long after black belt do so because they have developed a deep love and affection for their art. Many of these people tend to share the art they love with others. This quite often leads to teaching, but can also include doing seminars and workshops in the area. For Sean Kinney however, he and his wife had the idea to share his art, Tang Soo Do, through a new series of children’s books. What a fantastic idea!

I have heard many comments from martial artists referring to being on the mat as a form of “therapy.” I can also admit to feeling this way many times myself. There is something about being able to get on the mat after having a bad or long day at work. For some though, those sessions on the mat may mean even more. For the Paul family, the dojo has helped them with finding a way forward after the loss of their husband and father. Stay strong and train on!

When it comes to martial arts movies stars, many names come to mind. Of course, you have Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as easy names to drop. Even in the current day, you have Scott Adkins, and Iko Uwais, to name just two. Keanu Reeves is notable for discovering the martial arts through The Matrix movies and has continued in his training. However, there are not nearly as many notable female martial arts actresses. This, despite the fact that there are exponentially more women in martial arts today than years previous. Well, Filipino actress Anne Curtis wants to change that with her dedication to training for her role in the movie Buy Bust.
Hong Kong, China
So I have to share a bit of a geek moment. I do not think it is a big secret that I am a big fan of the Ip Man movies starring Donnie Yen. I really enjoy the action and themes that are presented throughout the series. While I knew that Scott Adkins would be appearing in the movie, I did not know that the great Jackie Chan would also be an antagonist in the movie. I truly cannot wait for this movie to premiere!
