Time has the unique ability to change almost anything. Many of the martial arts we study today have origins that can be traced back decades or centuries. Some practitioners may even use this as a selling point. However, there is one almost universal truth about all of these arts: In small or big ways, all of these arts are different than when they were originally. That is the nature of passing something on from one person to the next – there will always be (at least) slight alterations, just like playing the “Telephone Game.” Here we have a story about an Egyptian martial art that is very different today than a few decades ago.

The sad truth is that many children deal with bullying in school on a daily basis. For one reason or another, a bully identifies his target by picking a child that meets various criteria. Socially awkward, shorter, and weaker to name just a few. These bullied children get ready for school each day wondering what fresh insults and threats their bully has in store for them today. Thankfully, martial arts has been an answer for many young children in building confidence and inner strength. This article highlights a martial arts school that is working to overcome bullying in their area.

Dedication is a hallmark of any decent martial artist. The initial excitement of learning something new can take many budding practitioners through the first few ranks. However, when that wears off, many tend to discontinue training. Those that have deep reserves of dedication are the ones that you see with black belts with various amounts of trophies and plaques. Some even dedicate their entire lives to the martial arts they love and respect so much. Peter Whitney is one such person who dedicated over five decades to the martial arts!

A martial arts studio in any community can be a positive thing. A martial arts studio that is active in the community can potentially change lives beyond its own students. There are many ways a studio can make a difference locally; charities, education seminars, food drives, and fundraisers are a few examples. Sometimes two-way relationships can develop between the studio and other organizations. Here is a story about a studio that received help from local teachers and is now returning the favor.

Martial arts has done many things for people all over the world. One of those is creating a sense of community amongst its various practitioners. Despite many different styles and systems, people can share in their common practice of self-improvement. Sometimes this can bring various peoples together from countries that have been historically at odds with one another. Here we have an article about Muslim and Jewish martial arts practitioners coming together for education and to promote peace.
